We often find original hand carved elm cabinets like this throughout the different regions of provincial China. This unique and beautiful piece was salvaged in Shandong, on the northern countryside of China, and is estimated to be over 100 years old. Originally, this was a kitchen cabinet for Chinese families to store their fresh foods and kitchen ware. Fruits and vegetables would be stored in the latticed sections because they allowed for ventilation of the produce. And, in the other sections they would store their crockery and ceramics. This cabinet would make a beautiful addition to any space, but we think it would make for imaginative and thoughtful storage in a master bedroom.
